7-Day Lemosho Route Trek

The Lemosho Route is widely loved for its western approach, scenic variation, and stronger acclimatization profile. The official route page describes the 7-day Lemosho trek as crossing all six ecological zones, with day structure adjusted to create a more gradual climb than the shorter version.

Day by day highlights

THE BUDGET:

7 Days from $2,050 per person

Price is an estimate only and is dependant on group size, age of children, time of year and your choice of camps.

Day 1: Londorossi Gate to Forest Camp

After registration, drive to the trailhead and begin trekking through beautiful montane forest. The route feels remote from the start and gives a quieter first day compared with some other Kilimanjaro options. Overnight is at Forest Camp.

Day 2: Forest Camp to Shira 1 Camp

Today the trail rises out of the forest and into moorland, with more open views and changing vegetation. The climb is steady and scenic, ending at Shira 1 Camp on the plateau.

Day 3: Shira 1 Camp to Moir Hut via Shira 2

Cross the Shira Plateau, one of the mountain’s striking high-altitude landscapes. The day continues past Shira 2 and ends at Moir Hut, giving you valuable acclimatization and beautiful mountain scenery.

Day 4: Moir Hut to Barranco Camp via Lava Tower

Continue east and climb toward Lava Tower before descending to Barranco Camp. This “climb high, sleep low” pattern is one of the reasons Lemosho is so well regarded for acclimatization. Overnight is at Barranco.

Day 5: Barranco Camp to Barafu Camp via Karanga

Climb the Barranco Wall, continue through Karanga Valley, and press on to Barafu Camp. The day is challenging but rewarding, and the summit push is now close at hand. Rest early and prepare for summit night.

Day 6: Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp

Set off in the early hours for the summit, reaching Stella Point and then continuing to Uhuru Peak. After time at the top, descend to Barafu for a short break and continue to Mweka Camp for the night.

Day 7: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate

Descend through the forest to Mweka Gate, where the trek ends. Certificates are awarded before the transfer back to Moshi or Arusha.
