Safari Overview
This 6-day camping safari is a richer and more relaxed Northern Circuit adventure designed for travelers who want more time in the parks and a deeper connection to the safari experience. With two nights in Serengeti, this itinerary gives you stronger game viewing opportunities and a better chance to witness predator activity, large herds, and the changing moods of the savannah from sunrise to sunset. It also combines the elephant-filled landscapes of Tarangire, the dramatic beauty and wildlife density of the Ngorongoro Crater, and the lush groundwater forest and Rift Valley scenery of Lake Manyara National Park. The route is ideal for travelers who want an affordable safari without feeling rushed, and for anyone who values time on game drives over long transit days. Camping adds an authentic touch to the journey, with evenings spent under the stars and mornings beginning with the fresh air and sounds of the bush.

Day 1: Arusha to Tarangire National Park
After breakfast in Arusha, your guide will welcome you, give a safari briefing, and begin the drive to Tarangire National Park, a beautiful and often wildlife-rich park known for ancient baobab trees and large elephant herds. Once inside the park, you will begin your first game drive and explore the varied landscapes that make Tarangire so attractive, especially the riverine areas where animals gather to drink and graze. You may see elephants moving in family groups, giraffes browsing among acacia trees, zebras and wildebeests crossing the plains, and a variety of antelope species scattered across the savannah. Tarangire is also a rewarding park for birdlife and occasional predator sightings, and your guide will follow the best routes based on recent movement and conditions. After a picnic lunch inside the park and a full afternoon of game viewing, you will head to your campsite for dinner and overnight, enjoying your first evening immersed in the safari atmosphere.
- Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
- Accomodation: Public Campsite in/near Tarangire
Day 2: Tarangire to Serengeti National Park
You will leave camp after breakfast and begin the journey toward Serengeti National Park, passing through scenic highland areas and conservation landscapes that make the transfer day part of the adventure itself. As the terrain gradually opens, the scenery shifts into the iconic plains of the Serengeti ecosystem, and the anticipation grows as you enter one of Africa’s most celebrated wildlife destinations. Once inside the park, the drive becomes an en-route game drive, allowing you to begin searching immediately for wildlife across the open grasslands and rocky kopjes where predators often rest. Depending on the season and animal movements, you may encounter lions, hyenas, cheetahs, giraffes, elephants, buffaloes, and large herds of zebras and wildebeests spread across the plains. By late afternoon or early evening, you will arrive at camp, enjoy dinner in the heart of the wilderness, and settle in for a memorable night beneath the Serengeti sky.
- Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
- Accomodation: Public Campsite in Serengeti
Day 3: Full Day in Serengeti National Park
Today is a full safari day in Serengeti National Park, giving you valuable extra time to explore different areas and follow wildlife movement without the pressure of changing camps too quickly. You will depart early with a packed lunch and spend the day game viewing across the plains, with your guide selecting routes based on recent sightings, seasonal patterns, and the best chances of finding active wildlife. Serengeti is especially famous for predator sightings, so the day may include lions resting near kopjes, cheetahs scanning the plains, hyenas on patrol, and, with luck, leopards in trees or hidden in thicker cover. Large herbivore herds are also common, and if your dates align with migration movement, you may witness dramatic concentrations of wildebeests and zebras in search of fresh grazing. After a full and rewarding day in the bush, you will return to camp in the late afternoon or early evening for dinner and a second night in Serengeti.
- Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
- Accomodation: Public Campsite in Serengeti
Day 4: Serengeti to Ngorongoro Crater Rim
After breakfast, you will enjoy a final morning game drive in Serengeti while traveling out of the park, making the most of the early hours when temperatures are cooler and wildlife activity is often at its peak. This final Serengeti drive can still be very productive, with chances to see predators returning from night movement, elephants crossing the plains, and herds of antelope and zebra feeding in the soft morning light. You will continue with an en-route safari and stop for lunch before heading toward the Ngorongoro highlands, where the landscape changes noticeably from open savannah to greener, cooler uplands. The drive toward the crater rim offers beautiful viewpoints and a refreshing change of scenery that adds variety to the overall safari experience. By late afternoon, you will arrive at the rim campsite, enjoy dinner, and rest early as you prepare for the next day’s descent into the famous Ngorongoro Crater.
- Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
- Accomodation: Simba Campsite (Ngorongoro Rim) or similar
Day 5: Ngorongoro Crater Game Drive to Lake Manyara Area
You will start early with breakfast and descend into the Ngorongoro Crater for a half-day game drive in one of the most extraordinary wildlife habitats in Africa, where animals live in high concentration within the crater walls. The crater floor offers excellent chances to see lions, buffaloes, zebras, wildebeests, hyenas, hippos, and a wide range of birdlife, and with luck you may also spot the rare black rhino in the open grasslands. As you move through different habitats including swamps, forest patches, and open plains, your guide will help interpret animal behavior and point out the unique features that make this ecosystem so special. After a picnic lunch inside the crater, you will ascend and continue toward the Lake Manyara area or Mto wa Mbu for your overnight stay, enjoying views of the escarpment and surrounding countryside along the way. In the evening, settle into camp, have dinner, and rest after a day filled with spectacular scenery and wildlife encounters.
- Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
- Accomodation: Public Campsite in/near Mto wa Mbu
Day 6: Lake Manyara National Park to Arusha
After breakfast, you will head to Lake Manyara National Park for your final game drive, exploring a compact but scenic park known for its lush groundwater forest, acacia woodlands, open grassy areas, and the alkaline lake that attracts seasonal birdlife. Lake Manyara is famous for its beautiful landscape diversity and is an excellent place to see elephants at close range, baboons in large troops, hippos, giraffes, zebras, and many bird species including flamingos when conditions are right. The park is also known for its tree-climbing lions, although sightings depend on luck and timing, and your guide will explore the most promising areas during the drive. A picnic lunch will be enjoyed during the safari before you exit the park and begin the return journey to Arusha, passing through local settlements and scenic Rift Valley views. You will arrive in Arusha in the late afternoon or evening, marking the end of your 6-day Northern Tanzania camping safari with Infinity Prideland Safaris.
