7-Day Western Corridor Migration Safari

Tarangire National Park • Central Serengeti • Western Corridor • Ngorongoro Crater

Safari Overview

This 7-day migration safari is designed for travelers who want to follow the Great Migration through the Western Corridor, one of the most dramatic stages of the wildebeest journey. Usually best from around May to July, this route offers excellent chances to witness large herds moving across the plains and gathering near river systems, often with predators close behind. It also combines the classic wildlife of Tarangire, the resident game of Central Serengeti, and the remarkable scenery of Ngorongoro Crater. It is a strong choice for travelers who want a migration-focused safari with variety, comfort, and excellent game-viewing opportunities.

Day by day highlights

THE BUDGET:

7 Days from $4,380 per person

Price is an estimate only and is dependant on group size, age of children, time of year and your choice of camps.

Day 1: Arusha to Tarangire National Park

After breakfast, depart Arusha for Tarangire National Park and enjoy your first game drive among giant baobab trees and open savannah. The park is known for large elephant herds, giraffes, zebras, and good wildlife activity around the river. After lunch and more game viewing, continue to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Karatu to Central Serengeti

After breakfast, drive through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area toward Central Serengeti, where the landscape opens into wide wildlife-rich plains. Game viewing begins as you enter the park, with chances to see lions, hyenas, elephants, and grazing herds. Arrive at camp in the evening for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Central Serengeti to Western Corridor

Today you travel toward the Western Corridor, following the migration route as the herds begin moving westward across the Serengeti ecosystem. This region is known for its open plains, riverine habitats, and seasonal concentrations of wildebeests and zebras. After game viewing along the way, arrive at your camp for dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Full Day in Western Corridor

Spend the day exploring the Western Corridor with packed lunch, following the migration herds and searching for predators that patrol the area. Depending on the season and movement, you may witness dramatic wildlife scenes near the rivers and crossing points. Return to camp in the evening for dinner and overnight.

Day 5: Western Corridor to Central Serengeti

After breakfast, enjoy a final game drive in the Western Corridor before heading back toward Central Serengeti. Wildlife viewing continues along the route, and this transfer offers more chances to spot big cats and herds moving through the plains. Arrive at camp later in the day for dinner and overnight.

Day 6: Central Serengeti to Ngorongoro Highlands

Enjoy a morning game drive in Central Serengeti before driving toward the Ngorongoro highlands. The journey gives you one more chance to enjoy Serengeti’s wildlife before the scenery changes into cooler and greener uplands. Arrive at your lodge in the evening for dinner and overnight.

Day 7: Ngorongoro Crater to Arusha

After breakfast, descend into the Ngorongoro Crater for a half-day game drive in one of Tanzania’s most impressive wildlife settings. The crater is home to lions, buffaloes, zebras, hippos, hyenas, and many bird species, all within a stunning enclosed landscape. After lunch, ascend and return to Arusha, ending your safari.
